Fairfield Selectman Kiley Throws His Hat Into Ring In Re-Election Bid

“Tonight, I am once again seeking your support, this time, as a candidate for re-election to the Board of Selectman,” Kiley said. “It has be an honor representing our party and our town. … It has been both challenging and rewarding -- being the lone Republican voice on a Democratic-controlled board.”

During his speech, which preceded the chairman’s address, Kiley cited a long list of his experiences and accomplishments in the town government, including 15 years on Fairfield's Board of Finance.

Kiley positioned his bid for re-election based on “22 years’ worth of knowledge of the inner workings of our town government” as an important piece in the Republican Town Committee’s strategic plan of electing a Republican first selectman and regaining control of the board.

“This knowledge will be invaluable to our first selectman candidate as he or she takes on an incumbent first selectman and, when successful, transitions to managing the town,” Kiley said.

The selectman was originally appointed to the post by the Republican Town Committee to fill a vacancy after former Selectman James Walsh resigned.

Kiley’s comments were greeted with applause from the more than 30 Republican Town Committee members in attendance, including newly elected state Sen. Tony Hwang.

“Tonight, I ask for your support so I can use my political, personal, professional and winning campaign experience to represent our party,” Kiley said. “... and lead our party to victory in November.”

Democratic First Selectman Michael Tetreau has not yet announced his election plans for this year.
