Tetreau and Marmion, both Democrats, announced their campaigns for re-election at a meeting of the Democratic Town Committee on Monday night.

Tetreau was appointed interim first selectman in June 2011 to replace former First Selectman Kenneth Flatto. Before that, he served on the Representative Town Meeting, the Town Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Finance. He previously worked as a sales vice president at William Raveis Real Estate.

In his speech, Tetreau highlighted the accomplishments of the past four years, including weathering through superstorms, blizzards and a train crash, finishing the new Metro train station, the opening of new businesses and restaurants, improving services for seniors and saving $2.5 million a year through sustainable energy practices.

“We did all this in four years on the lowest four-year tax increase in 20 years,” Tetreau said. “We’ve got a lot more to do. The campaign is going to be about strong leadership, democratic values and a vision for our future.”

He said he wants to finish replacing the Exide Battery Factory, create a vision and plan for the Metro Center, keep taxes low while maintaining services, add more bike and walk paths, work on more sustainability projects, expand services for seniors and work more closely with the Fairfield Museum, the Pequot Library and the town’s two universities.

Marmion was appointed to the Board of Selectmen in January to replace Cristin McCarthy Vahey, who vacated her seat after being elected to the State House of Representatives in November. She previously served on the Representative Town Meeting for three terms.

“I’m running because I want to ensure that Fairfield maintains and builds upon its well-deserved reputation for excellent schools, services and high quality of life,” Marmion said. “As selectman, I’ll work with Mike Tetreau to continue the trend of low taxes, responsible fiscal policy and a more efficient local government.”
