The topics discussed at the forum included access to business capital; job creation and growth among women-owned businesses; and key policy issues facing small businesses in Connecticut.
Hwang said, “This event is an inspirational gathering of business entrepreneurs that reflect the importance and vitality of small businesses in our state. This women-owned business networking event also educated and raised awareness on the unique challenges that women-owned business must overcome. I am committed to supporting and helping all business owners succeed in our community.”
The keynote speaker was Erin Andrew, who is the director of the Small Business Administration’s Office of Women’s Business Ownership. She oversees the agency’s efforts to promote the growth of women-owned businesses through advocacy and programs that provide business training and counseling, access to credit and capital, and multiple business and networking opportunities.
The WBDC is host to two SBA organizations -- the Office of Women’s Business Ownership and Women’s Business Center, which educate and prepare clients through business and financial workshops, one-on-one coaching and training programs to help women and men grow their business ideas to the next level.
“It is always a wonderful thing when an elected official takes a special interest in the challenges and opportunities of women owned businesses," president and CEO of the Women’s Business Development Council Fran Pastore added in the statement. "We congratulate State Representative Hwang’s initiative on taking an interest in this topic. WBDC will continue to be a resource and leader for all women businesses owners.”
In the coming months, Hwang plans to host a women-owned business forum with the local Chamber of Commerce.
