"On behalf of our 8,000 members, the Sierra Club-Connecticut Chapter endorses your 2014 candidacy for the Connecticut State Senate. This endorsement has been ratified by both the state Political Committee and the state Executive Committee," Martin Mador, political and legislative chair for the Sierra Club's Connecticut Chapter, wrote in an endorsement letter to Fawcett.

"Our decision is based on your thoughtful responses to our questionnaire and the endorsement process, as well as your record of commitment to environmental issues and your strong record of environmental support in the legislature."

Fawcett, who has served as a Fairfield state representative for the past eight years, said she will continue to work to make Connecticut a leader on environmental issues.

"Championing legislation that protects our precious natural resources has always been one of my top priorities, and I look forward to advancing these causes in 2015," Fawcett said.

Founded in 1892, The Sierra Club is the oldest and largest environmental grassroots group in the country. It is dedicated to the enjoyment and protection of the natural places of the earth, and is America's most effective advocate for the environment.
