Peekskill's Field Library To Celebrate 125 Years At Monteverde

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Field Library will celebrate 125 years of service to the community with a celebration for all ages this weekend.

The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 1 to 6:00 p.m. at Monteverde at Oldstone in Cortlandt. The celebration will feature performances by local musicians, sculpture and artwork exhibits, a children's tent, and hors d’oeuvres and wine on the historic grounds of the Pierre Van Cortlandt estate built in 1760 on a bluff overlooking the sweeping Hudson River and Peekskill Bay. 

As part of the 125th historic anniversary theme, the event will also honor the oldest family businesses of Peekskill still in existence with the 18th annual Chester A. Smith Awards at 2 pm.  Businesses to be honored are N. Dain’s Sons, Arthur Weeks & Son Jewelry, D. Bertoline & Sons, E.O. Curry Funeral Home, Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, Nardone Brothers Furniture, the Scaramellino Family Restaurants, Sandy Poritzky Meats, and Enterprise Press.

Free transportation from the library to Monteverde will be available on Stella, Peekskill's newly restored trolley. Parking is also available on site.
