Harold Whalen, 94, Yorktown Heights WWII Veteran

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Harold P. Whalen of Yorktown Heights and formerly of Yonkers died Jan. 20. He was 94.

Whalen was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Yonkers to Thomas and Anna Whalen. He served in the Army during World War II and later worked for Con Edison before retiring in 1973. He volunteered at Open Gate for the last 25 years and served as an usher for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak.

He is survived by three nieces, Kathy Martin, Barbara Whalen and Lisa Whalen; and a nephew, Thomas Whalen.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Yorktown Funeral Home in Shrub Oak. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
