Under the guidance of teacher Robert Gallacher, on Oct. 4, 14 Brewster students gathered at the Danbury War Memorial Gym to assist local athletes and veterans as they participated in four-hour workout sessions. The athletes included many veterans, local sports enthusiasts, widows of New York firefighters who died on 9/11, Gold Star families and relatives and friends of HOMH members.

The goal of the event was to raise money for HOMH, which is a nonprofit, so it could continue to provide modified vehicles to veterans with limited ability to drive. The fundraiser received over $50,000 in donations and will help add to the 60 vehicles HOMH has already supplied to veterans in need.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to give back to our veterans in the community and both the students, and the vets all really enjoy the experience,” Gallacher said. “At the time of the event our kids were already asking when they could go back to help out again.”
