Kirby’s work history is as varied as his boat designs. He began his career as a Canadian newspaperman, and eventually became editor of Yacht Racing. In addition, Kirby participated in three Olympic Games for Canada, and has won two World Championships and three North American Championships. He also holds wins in offshore races, and is a member of several Halls of Fame.
Kirby currently focuses on his design career, which includes the successful boat designing company, Bruce Kirby Marine. His designs range in size from small dinghies to 12-meter yachts, with his most successful project being the Laser, a popular one-design, small sailing dinghy that emphasizes simplicity and performance.
The home at 213 Rowayton Ave. peers down over Five Mile River, an inlet separating the village of Rowayton and the town of Darien.
