Jonathan Siveyer, a resident of Monroe, was named a semifinalist for the prestigious award. Five students from Prep were Commended honorees. They are Grant Ballesteros, Junlin Mo, Brendan Flynn, Tom Paul and Ben Martinez.

The seniors are recognized based on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test taken in their junior year. Over 1.5 million students from across the nation entered the competition by taking the test, and the Prep winners were selected based on placement in the top five percent in the highly competitive state of Connecticut.

A spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Program said: "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
