"I didn't know about it (C-SPAN channels). In the 60's I don't really bother," he said about C-SPAN and C-SPAN 2 that are on Cablevision's Channels 65 and 66 respectively. C-SPAN 3 is on Channel 102.

But that might change after he spent part of Thursday afternoon touring C-SPAN's 45-foot long Campaign 2016 Bus during a visit to Westhiil High School. "I found it really cool because I did not know any of this, the company and that they had a had a bus," he said.

The C-SPAN Campaign 2016 Bus travels the country to promote C-SPAN’s “Road to the White House” series by visiting universities, schools, and political events. It made a two-hour visit to Westhill.

Associate Principal Chase Dunlap said he and the school's social studies department head, Lisa Forbes, worked together to bring the bus to the school and to incorporate programming in the classroom about C-SPAN. Dunlap said he was impressed with the bus.

"It's very exciting. It's a lot more than I thought, a lot of interactive stations and opportunities for the students to learn," he said.

Dunlap said he hoped the students would take advantage of what they learned to either watch C-SPAN or to go online to learn more.

Matthew McGuire, national account executive for C-SPAN, who spoke to the students about the organization, said the bus is used to tell students about C-SPAN and what it does and to educate on the American political process.

"Actually a lot more know about C-SPAN that you think," he said, noting students learn about it in school or at home. "Some kids will come up to me as they are exiting the bus and they don't want their friends to see them and say 'Actually I watched you before and I like that show' so yes they know what we are," he said.

C-SPAN is known for its live coverage of the U.S. Congress without commercial breaks.
