FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Alternative High School is asking the Fairfield Board of Education to agree to rename the school for the late Walter Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald had coached basketball in Fairfield and worked as a teacher in the Alternative High School. Several parents and students have expressed interest in renaming the school after him.
Renaming the school would help to give the students and teacher a sense of identity, wrote AHS teacher Peter Holskin to the Board of Education.
"Walter's family and I feel both humbled and honored at this thought," Margaret Mary Fitzgerald said in a letter.
The board will have to vote on the proposal. At its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, it will hear the proposal made by Holskin.
