FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The children's wing at Bridgeport Hospital welcomed new toys Saturday that were collected by members of the union representing the Fairfield schools' custodial and maintenance employees
"I am proud to see our union come together at a time of need. Thank to all who had participated. It's always great to see children smile when receiving a gift," said Jeffrey Pressler, vice president of Local 1779 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
Members of Local 1779 of Council 4 AFSCME, representing nearly 100 Fairfield Board of Education custodial and maintenance employees, delivered toys and other gifts to the Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet at Bridgeport Hospital, which provides new, age-appropriate and educational toys for pediatric patients.
In addition to the toys, Local 1779 also purchased $400 worth of CDs, DVDs and I-Tune gift cards to help the hospital’s youngest patients.
