Fairfield Seeks Volunteers for Riverfield Project

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Do you want to help build a part of Fairfield’s great school system? Then send your resume to the first selectman’s office. The town is looking for volunteers for the Riverfield School Building Committee to plan for its renovation starting next year.

The Board of Education began plans for an expansion to the Mill Plain Road elementary school this fall. The estimated $9 million project will add classrooms to get rid of the five portable rooms that the school now uses to house its 419 students.

The Board of Selectmen is now looking for a group of Fairfielders to serve on the committee that will oversee the construction process. It will be tasked with approving all designs on the new addition, hiring the contractors to carry out the work and making other decisions during the project.

Residents with backgrounds in architecture, project management and construction are preferred, but anyone can apply. Those who volunteer should expect to work on the project for at least two years and through the end of construction.

The selectmen will discuss candidates for the committee in January. After they make their recommendations, the new board will go to the Representative Town Meeting for approval.

Those interested should send resumes to the First Selectman’s Office via email at firstselectmanffld@town.fairfield.ct.us or via mail at 725 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. For more information, contact the office at 203-256-3030.
