Participants in several university initiatives, as well as students from local elementary and secondary schools will be recognized throughout the afternoon.

In 2015, Connecticut Writing Project-Fairfield, which is based at the university, partnered with Fairfield Athletics and Hoops4Hope to launch Literacy4Life in support of student achievement in Southern Connecticut.

Throughout the past year, students in grades K through 8 have nominated mentors who have encouraged their success in sports and school as part of the Mentor4Life contest. All of these winning mentors and the students they have inspired will be honored Sunday.

The Stags will also recognize participants in the Bassick College Model Partnership. Teachers from Bassick High in Bridgeport have been holding some Friday classes in classrooms at the university, giving their students a real-life glimpse into the collegiate learning environment.

The Stags will honor three classes from Riverfield School in Fairfield that collected the most box tops in a schoolwide Box Tops for Education contest.

Finally, students who recorded perfect attendance at Discovery Magnet School and Achievement First Bridgeport Academy, both in Bridgeport, will receive complimentary tickets to Sunday’s match-ups.

The action starts at 1 p.m. with the Fairfield women challenging Siena College. Next up, the Fairfield men’s team will welcome Manhattan College at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at FairfieldStags.com/TIX.
