On average, the percentage drop in Fairfield on the CMT's - which tests third- to eighth-graders - was between one to two percent, but in almost every category, there was a drop.

Students in eighth-grade had the biggest drop in the science category, only 77.1 percent of the students taking the test in 2013 met goal versus the 83.8 percent who met goal in 2012.

Not all the categories saw a decrease. Fairfield's fifth- graders showed an increase in the number of students meeting goal in all categories, writing, science, reading and math.

In high school, 10th-graders taking the CAPT dropped from 85 percent meeting goal in 2012 to 81.5 percent in the writing portion of the test.

The percentage of students meeting goal in science and reading rose by just under a percent each, and the number of students reaching goal in math rose by 4.2 percent in 2013.
