FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Warde High School student Shannon Magnaldi won the Congressional Art Competition sponsored by U.S. Rep. Jim Himes this weekend.

Magnaldi won the regional contest with a black-and-white photograph titled “Off-Peak.” The winning work will hang in the halls of the U.S. Capitol with other winners from across the country for the next year.

The annual contest was open to all high school students from Connecticut’s Fourth Congressional District, which Himes represents. A panel of local artists selected Magnaldi’s work out of a field of more than 60 photos, drawings, paintings and other artworks.

The competition’s first runner-up was Ian Barsanti of Westport, and the second runner-up was Michael Shepard of New Canaan. Noah Johnson of Westport and Saurav Acharya of Milford received honorable mentions.

“Congratulations to Shannon and the other participants,” Himes said in a statement. “The arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education, and I am pleased to see so much creativity coming out of the schools of Southwest Connecticut.”
