Rachel Albenze and Mary Crooks, both 12, have drawings featured in the exhibit, presented by Creative Connections in Norwalk. The free exhibit is displayed in The Maritime Aquarium’s IMAX Theater lobby. No paid admission is necessary to enter.

The gallery show features 141 works of art by children from 22 countries under the theme of “Food for Thought.” Children ages 8 to 18 were asked to illustrate a value or belief that is important in their culture. The children were tasked with the challenge of showing a food being cultivated, prepared, used or eaten.

Rachel Albenze’s entry, “Snowman,” shows a girl having fun in the snow and building a snowman. Rachel’s food item is the snowman’s carrot.

Mary Crooks’ “Christmas” emphasizes happiness, family and holiday traditions. Her food item is a turkey waiting to be eaten for Christmas dinner.

Pieces are included from 22 countries, including China, Poland, Uganda, Gambia, Guatemala, Latvia, Cyprus, Turkey, Senegal, Nepal, Mexico and Ireland. Dozens of students from Fairfield County are represented.

Creative Connections is a nonprofit international cultural exchange organization that works to educate young people by teaching them about other cultures.
