The event, held for 27 years, has raised $16 million for scholarships, according to a press release.

“This mission is more critical than it has ever been, as we must strive together as a community to make those opportunities available to persons of all backgrounds,” said the Rev. Jeffrey von Arx, Fairfield University president, during his remarks at the March 26 event. “Our Multicultural Scholarship Fund makes this happen.”

The dinner, at the Grand Hyatt New York, had more than twice the attendance and money raised than 2014’s event, according to a press release.

Since 1988, approximately 500 Fairfield University students have received money for their education from the fund.
