Fairfield's Sacred Heart University Sends Students To Luxembourg

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Like most universities, Sacred Heart University in Fairfield offers students the chance to study abroad. But for some students, other commitments take precedence, be it athletics or another program.

For those students, SHU offers a brief program of two to four weeks, held every summer in Luxembourg. This year's program ran from May 17-31 for the two-week session and until June 14 for the four-week version.

Both classes took place at SHU's satellite campus in Luxembourg City with faculty who traveled alongside students.

Thirty-five students were part of this year's program, which featured class options like “Gargoyles and Angels: The Ways of Faith in Western Europe,” “Marketing in the European Union” and “Social Entrepreneurship.”

“We live in an increasingly interconnected world,” said SHU professor David Taylor, who taught a marketing course this summer. “It is more important than ever for students to gain a global perspective. It also gives them an increased awareness of their own culture and biases.”

Students also had the time to travel around various European countries due to Luxembourg's central location, including France, Germany and Belgium.

“As a student athlete and a nursing major, a summer program was my best option, and Luxembourg has been an amazing experience,” said SHU student Emily Falvey. “The program was great because of the planned trips to neighboring countries that increased my exposure to different cultures.”
