Gliniecki stepped down before the start of the 2014-15 school year to pursue another career. Elizabeth Roop has served as the Bridgeport community college’s interim president since Gliniecki’s departure in June.
Broadie, who is currently the vice president of student services at SUNY Orange County Community College with campuses in Middletown and Newburgh, will take the reins on April 3.
A total of 44 applicants interviewed for the position.
"Dr. Broadie brings exceptional scholarship and experience to this position, and is strongly committed to the enhancement of student engagement, learning and development,” Gregory Gray, president of the Board of Regents for Higher Education, said in a statement.
Broadie has served in a variety of positions for SUNY and was one of three finalists for the post at HCC. In his statement, Gray said Broadie has 24 years of higher education experience and has a successful record of creating high-quality educational programs and services for students of diverse background.
“We are very excited here at Housatonic of Dr. Broadie being named the new president,” said Housatonic Community College spokesman Anson C. Smith. “Many highly qualified people were interested in the position, and we are looking forward to the future.”
Broadie received his doctoral degree from Colorado State University, a master’s degree in business administration from Long Island University, and a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Mercy College, where he graduated summa cum laude.
“My keen passion for the enhancement of student engagement and learning, as well as my experience in expanding access to high quality educational programs, has drawn me to Housatonic Community College,” said Broadie. “I welcome this exceptional opportunity to shape the academic growth and development of students as the college builds on its strong past and moves into an exciting future.”
