FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield’s McKinley School is the Fairfield County winner of the 2012 Better Schools Bonanza. The elementary school’s PTA received a check for $1,000 from The Daily Voice on Friday.
“I was beyond excited to receive the notification that McKinley had been chosen to receive this cash prize,” McKinley PTA Treasurer Mindy Morgan said in an email. “I see what this money does for our children on a daily basis and I thank [The Daily Voice] so much for supporting our local community.”
McKinley was selected randomly from a pool of schools across Fairfield County entered into this year’s contest. Morgan, who put up the winning entry, said the donation will help pay for the school’s cultural arts programs, such as a recent visit by Boogie Chillun, a troupe of dancers that run an interactive show.
“The arts are so important to our children's learning experience and this performance was made possible partly by [the] contest and [the] sponsor,” Morgan said in an email.
Fairfield County’s 2012 Better Schools Bonanza was sponsored by the Arthur Murray Grande Ballroom in Greenwich. Owner Christine Georgopulo said Friday that the company is no stranger to the importance of education, since it leads classes for students “ages 5 to 85.”
“I think it’s a fabulous contest,” Georgopulo said. “The young people are the future, no matter what category you’re looking at.”
