Nine Faculty Members Earn Tenure At Sacred Heart University

The newly tenured faculty members are Anita August, Pamela Buck, Grace Guo, Andrew Lazowski, Kerry Milner, Amanda Moras, Julianna Stockton, Barbara Tarasovich and David Taylor. 

Here are more details on each professor:

• Anita August of Stratford, associate professor of English. August holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing and critical studies from the California Institute of the Arts, and a doctorate in rhetoric and writing studies from the University of Texas at El Paso. She teaches rhetoric and writing studies and creative writing courses. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on 19th-century women’s rhetorical practices, rhetorical visual theory and pedagogy, writing and identity and feminist visual culture. 
• Pamela Buck of New Haven, associate professor of English. Buck graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from Wellesley College, a master’s in English from the University of Chicago and a doctorate in English from Tufts University. She teaches British literature courses and a first-year seminar titled, “Jane Austen’s Guide to Dating.” She also is involved in the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. 
• Grace Guo of Milford, associate professor of management. Guo earned her bachelor’s degree in English literature from Sichuan International Students University in China, a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University and a doctorate in organization studies with a minor in research methodology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She teaches management, organizational behavior and international management. Her major research initiatives include cross-cultural management, global career management, self-initiated expatriation and repatriation, entrepreneurial processes and corporate entrepreneurship and organizational justice.
• Andrew Lazowski of Trumbull, associate professor of mathematics. Lazowski graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Hofstra University and a doctorate in mathematics from Wesleyan University. Dedicated to helping students develop a true appreciation for math, he teaches an array of courses and works with students ranging from freshmen to seniors. He won the Dr. Marian Calabrese Outstanding Faculty Award in 2014.
• Kerry Milner of Stratford, associate professor of nursing. Milner earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Connecticut, a master’s degree in nursing education from Southern Connecticut State University and a doctorate from the Yale University School of Nursing. She also held a post-doctorate research fellowship at the Yale University School of Medicine. She teaches courses in SHU’s doctorate of nursing practice program. Her expertise covers evidence-based practice, medical-surgical critical care and writing for publication. 
• Amanda Moras of West Hartford, associate professor of sociology. Moras graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology from William Patterson University, and a master’s and doctorate degree in sociology from the University of Florida. She also earned a certificate in women’s studies and gender research from the University of Florida. Moras teaches introduction to social theory, applied social theory, diversity and oppression and the sociological imagination. 
• Julianna Stockton of Westport, associate professor of mathematics. Stockton earned her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering and her master’s and doctorate in mathematics education from Columbia University. She teaches calculus, linear algebra, math for elementary school teachers and history of mathematics. Stockton also was named director of SHU’s new 3+2 engineering program. 
• Barbara Tarasovich of Shelton, associate professor of accounting. Tarasovich graduated from SHU with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in finance, and she earned a doctorate in business with an accounting and international business concentration from Pace University. She teaches financial accounting, managerial accounting and auditing courses in SHU’s master’s in business administration program. Tarasovich is also director of the master’s of science accounting program. Before joining SHU’s faculty, she had a long career as an executive in the financial world, including a position as director of finance in Unilever’s Global Information Technology Division. 
• David Taylor of Bridgeport, associate professor of marketing. Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas-Tyler, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from LeTourneau University and a master’s degree and doctorate in marketing from the University of North Texas. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, including marketing research, digital marketing, marketing analytics and consumer behavior. 

In addition, Rachel Bowman, who teaches psychology, and Steven Michels, who teaches government, politics and global studies, received promotions from associate professor to full professor.
