Police Add Patrols For Fairfield Schools' Dismissal

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Police will have extra patrols at Fairfield Public Schools for dismissals on Friday in response to the shooting at Newtown’s Sandy Hook Elementary School , Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara said via Twitter.

Fairfield schools were not placed on lockdown after the incident in Newtown. Officials do not believe that there is a threat at any of Fairfield’s schools, but the extra patrols have been added as a precaution, Schools Superintendent David Title said in an e-mail to parents Friday afternoon.

“The Chief of Police and I have been in touch all day regarding this incident and want to assure you that our schools are safe and that no further action is required by our schools at this time,” Title’s email reads.

Fairfield Police have also sent several officers to Newtown to assist local and state police in their investigation of the incident.

Fairfield’s Emergency Services Unit, which includes an armored vehicle, is standing by but has not been dispatched, according to police reports.
