FAIRFIELD, Conn. – With winter upon us, students from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield stepped up with rakes and tarps to assist senior citizens physically or financially unable to conduct leaf cleanup around their homes.
At the request of the Trumbull Rotary Club, a team of SHU students along with a supervisor and a Rotarian visited a Trumbull household to assist with a cleanup task.
“The property owner was most grateful for our student volunteers and the hours of work they put in to rake up all the leaves,” Carroll said. “As for our students, they were happy to play a role in assisting our elder local citizens with a task that was not possible for them to do.”
This effort is an annual initiative for the Trumbull Rotary Club, according to member Jim Malski. He organized another group of volunteers to cover additional properties.
This is the first year SHU students participated in the cleanup event.
