The grant is designed for scholarship support and will be distributed to students coming into the program.
“This funding will help DNP students coming into the program with costs of tuition, books and supplies. Students with a GPA of 3.5 or above and who demonstrate a financial need are eligible. The DNP degree represents the attainment of the highest level of preparation in advanced clinical nursing practice,” said Mary Alice Donius, director of the College of Nursing, in a press release.
“Sacred Heart’s DNP Program prepares nurses for advanced roles in education, clinical practice and executive leadership. Our third group of students graduated from the DNP program this past May, and it was compelling to see the significant growth and achievement of these graduates,” Donius added. “This funding has allowed many students to further their education, accomplish their goals and make significant contributions to the field of nursing and health care.”
This is the third time Sacred Heart has received money from the Paul L. Jones Trust Fund. It will help prepare an educated nurse work force that will influence better patient outcomes at multiple levels of health care and will also prepare the next generation of nurse educators, according to a press release.
