Sabrina Maldonado of Shelton, the 2017 Connecticut Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year, won one of seven state awards in the restaurant group’s 10th annual Boys & Girls Club Scholarship Award.

She received $1,000 for her exemplary commitment to the Boys & Girls Club of Lower Naugatuck Valley, as well as her strong performance in school and her community involvement.

Maldonado will start classes at the Lowell campus of the University of Massachusetts in the fall.

The seven scholarships were distributed across New England and New York.

“We are passionate about our partnership with the Boys & Girls Club organization and what better way to celebrate the milestone than to continue to provide Boys & Girls Club Scholarship Awards to deserving high school students,” said Charlie Noyes, president of the Ninety Nine Restaurants. “These youths have made an impact not only to their local Boys & Girl Club, but also in their schools, community, as well as with friends and family. I wish them the best of luck with their future education and endeavors.”
