Social Media Post Leads To More Security At Magnet School Serving Fairfield

BRIDGEPORT/STRATFORD, Conn. — Police and school officials were working to beef up security at three schools in time for class Monday but said a threat circulated by students on social media last week was not credible, the Connecticut Post reported.

Bridgeport's Interim Schools Superintendent Fran Rabinowitz said the district was working with police in both Bridgeport and Stratford to ensure safety, the Post said.

The investigation began when an eighth-grader at Wooster Middle School in Stratford reported a threat in a group message on Kik that was titled, “Never be afraid to die.”

A total of 27 students from Stratford and Bridgeport passed around the message that mentioned Stratford High School, Wooster Middle School or Bridgeport’s Fairchild Wheeler Magnet School, which serves students from Bridgeport, Fairfield, Easton, Trumbull, Stratford, Monroe, Shelton and Milford.

The disturbing social media post has been circulating around the country, police said.

Stratford Schools Superintendent Janet Robinson sent emails and robocalls telling parents that there were no real threats or dangers, the Post said.
