The Greek Life students were instrumental in raising some of the $196,439.15 needed to replace the playground, which had become beat up, bug-ridden and—in some places—dangerous. The students raised more than $22,000 with two 24-hour see-saw-a-thon events where the entire Greek Life community worked together to support this single cause.
“The staff, families and students at Six to Six Magnet School are so appreciative of all the hard work, dedication and commitment from the students at Greek Life at Sacred Heart University for helping make our new playground a reality. On behalf of our school community and Cooperative Educational Services, I’d like to say thank you, and we hope for a long association,” said Chris LaBelle, principal of the Six to Six Magnet School during the fundraising period.
“After working very hard to raise money at two see-saw-a-thons, it was great to be there the day the playground opened and see the looks on the children’s faces and the way they stormed the playground as the ribbon was cut,” Stanford said. “It was rewarding to see the children filled with genuine happiness over something so simple and to know that SHU Greek Life had contributed to it.”
Sacred Heart University, the second-largest independent Catholic university in New England, offers more than 50 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs on its main campus in Fairfield, Connecticut, and satellites in Connecticut, Luxembourg and Ireland.
