Fairfield School Joins Lineup At MLK Basketball Classic At Bridgeport Arena

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Connecticut high school basketball will teams will come together for the Martin Luther King Classic Basketball Tournament at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport on Monday, Jan. 19, from noon to 8 p.m.

"We are thrilled to host the Martin Luther King Classic Basketball Tournament," said Howard Saffan, president of the Webster Bank Arena. "The day will be a wonderful culmination of great basketball between some of the best high school programs in Connecticut and honoring the great Dr. King."

In between the four games, footage of some of King’s greatest moments will be played on the video board and players will read some of his speeches.

The schedule for the day is as follows, with the second team listed playing as the home team:

  • Kolbe v. Bassick at noon;
  • Cross v. Harding at 2 p.m.;
  • Sacred Heart v. Notre Dame – Fairfield at 4 p.m.; and
  • Hillhouse v. Central at 6 p.m.   

"As the father of two Central High School graduates, I'm very proud of their success on the court and look forward to a chance to root for the Hilltoppers at Webster Bank Arena,” said Bill Finch, mayor of Bridgeport. “Thank you to Harbor Yard Sports and Entertainment for giving Bridgeport kids an opportunity to showcase their talents on such a grand stage. I encourage residents from throughout the region to come see our improving downtown and enjoy a great day of basketball in Bridgeport."

The tournament is presented by the Yale New Haven Health System. Sponsors include Bridgeport Field of Dreams and Future Stars Children’s Foundation.
