Darien, Fairfield Prep Boys Win At Wilton Race

WILTON, Conn. – Boys teams from Darien and Fairfield Prep and the girls team from Immaculate of Danbury won championships Saturday at the Wilton Invitational cross country meet. The meet attracted teams from throughout the state and one from Long Island.

Fairfield Prep junior Chris Alvarado won the boys race in 15:56 for the 3.1 mile distance. Prep compiled 31 points to win the boys large school division. Andy Thane finished seventh overall, while Alec Hilton (11th) and Scott Ball (13th) also finished in the top 15. Prep’s fifth scorer was Matthew Scholl, who placed 30th overall.

Darien won the boys small school division with 27 points, followed by New Fairfield, New Canaan and Joel Barlow. Darien sophomore Alex Ostberg finished second overall. Marshall Huffman (eighth), Colten Appleby (ninth), Peter Kreuch (10th) and Jack Sparkman (12th) rounded out Darien’s scoring.

Wilton’s boys finished fifth in the large school division. Sophomore Spencer Brown finished fourth overall in 16:42.

Immaculate won the girls small school division with 51 points, followed by New Canaan (59). Maggie Christie of Immaculate took third overall, and Carly Schuyler was fourth. Jess Wojnicki, Jenna Gasparinni and Sarah Baker were Immaculate’s other scorers.

In the large schools division, Wilton finished second with 55 points behind Glastonbury. Alosha Southern was Wilton’s top finisher, taking 10th overall.
