In their first league game since the holiday break, the Fairfield Hoops sixth grade boys showed no signs of rust. Clay Westerman sparked a steady attack with a game-high 17 points as Fairfield cruised to a 47-31 victory over Darien YMCA sixth graders.
Darien built an early three-point lead, but Westerman turned up the heat for Fairfield, showing excellent ball handling skills. Fairfield displayed quick and effective passing, confusing the Darien defense. Before long, Fairfield had built an insurmountable lead.
JJ Conway took over the scoring in the final quarter and finished with 12 points. Phil Vlanders added six points.
The Fairfield sixth graders are now 3-1 in league play and take on Greenwich Flame on Saturday.
