Fairfield American Begins Quest For World Series Bid

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The road to the Little League World Series begins Friday evening for the Fairfield American All-Stars. After opening ceremonies at 7:15 p.m., Fairfield takes on Rhode Island state champion, Coventry, in the first game of the New England Regional Tournament in Bristol.

Fairfield clubbed its way through the state tournament, scoring a combined 43 runs in seven games. American outscored Avon, 18-0, in the best-of-three state championship series to cruise to the program's third straight title.

American will try to return to Williamsport, Pa., for the Little League World Series after the 2010 squad won the New England Regional.

Fairfield American will be on New England Sports Network in the final game of pool play Wednesday. The regional semifinals also will be aired on NESN and the New England Regional Championship will be broadcast Aug. 11 on ESPN.
