FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield American Little League is ready to play for all the marbles.
The New England champions start their Little League World Series quest Thursday at 3 p.m. against the West region champion, Petaluma, Calif. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
Eight teams from the United States and eight international teams will play in opposing double-elimination brackets. The U.S. champion will play the international champion on Aug. 26 live on ABC.
If Fairfield wins its first three games, it will advance to the U.S. championship. If not, there are still ways to get there through the losers bracket. In the event Fairfield loses twice, they would then play a consolation game and their season would be over.
Fairfield was a perfect 6-0 in regionals, cruising to the New England title with a dominant 14-0 win over Bedford, N.H. American scored more runs in regionals than any other team in the country, outscoring its opponents 60-8.
Instead of the usual white and red Fairfield colors, American will wear new green and white uniforms with "New England" on the jerseys and "NE" on the hats.
