FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield American Little League All-Stars scored four times in the top of the sixth inning to snap a 2-2 tie to defeat Annex of New Haven, 6-2, in the Section One final on Wednesday.

With the dramatic victory, American returns to the state championship series in hopes of representing Connecticut for the third straight year in the New England regional tournament.

After Fairfield opened the top of the sixth with back-to-back hits, Ryan Meury's sacrifice fly scored the eventual winning run for American. Fairfield made sure to add plenty of insurance though, as an RBI triple by Biagio Paoletta and a two-run bomb by Will Lucas put the exclamation point on the victory.

Lucas earned the win on the mound as well, pitching five innings and striking out eight. His only blemish came on an Annex two-run home run in the fourth. Lucas was also able to wiggle out of several jams, as Annex stranded nine players on base in the game.

Fairfield American will take on Avon in the best-of-three championship in a rematch of last year's state title series. First pitch for game one of the series is at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The series will be held at Annex Little League in New Haven.
