FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield American won its fifth Little League state championship in seven years on Saturday with a 6-3 victory over Coginchaug.

Fairfield moves on to the New England Regional Tournament Sunday in Bristol. The regional champion advances to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., later this month.

The Americans rolled to the title in District 2 by going 7-0. In the Section 1 tournament, Fairfield beat a determined Stamford North squad for the championship. Fairfield went 3-0 in Section 1 play, and 3-0 in state play.

The Americans play their regional opener at 7:30 p.m. Sunday against Bedford, N.H.
