FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield is the capital of Little League Baseball in Connecticutagain. After forcing a deciding third game in the state championship series with a dramatic win in Game 2 , Fairfield American clubbed its way to a return to the New England regional tournament. American tagged Glastonbury for five home runs to take the state title, 13-3.
After barely surviving Game 2, Fairfield's prolific offense regained its stroke on Tuesday, slugging 16 hits. Jack Oricoli settled down after allowing back-to-back home runs in the first inning. The Fairfield ace allowed just three more hits, walking none and striking out four.
With his team trailing 2-1, Brendan Layne hit a two-run home blast to put Fairfield up for good. Before the evening was over, Grant Carnemark, John Annuzzi and Brendan Bucher would also homer. Layne added a second round-tripper in the fifth. Annuzzi's home run was a three-run pinch-hit shot that put the game out of reach.
Fairfield will return to Bristol to defend its New England regional championship. Their first game of the tournament is against Vermont on Friday at 8:15 p.m.
