Fairfield County Ballplayers Celebrate at Shack

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The Connecticut Top Hats baseball team will receive their championship rings and raise money for charities and its travel costs Friday at The Shack in Fairfield from 9 p.m. to midnight.

The Top Hats won the Men’s 35 Central Aluminum Central championship in November. The team is comprised of players from the Fairfield County Men’s Senior Baseball League. Players from the Fairfield Mariners, New Canaan Cannons and Monroe Top Hats were among the members.

Norwalk’s Wally Hurd played in the championship game. Hurd also is the athletic director at All Saints Catholic School in Norwalk and manager of the successful Riptide softball team that has been a fixture in the New England Regionals in recent years. He plays for New Canaan in the Fairfield County league.

Pete Tucci , also of Norwalk, played for the team during the season but did not participate in the Florida Tournament. Bob Manowitz is the player/manager for the Top Hats.

The team won the 2011 Fall Classic in Jupiter, Fla., with a 7-4 win versus the Suffolk (N.Y.) Indians in the championship game.
