Although he didn’t start life as a Rangers fan, Quinnipiac Hockey Coach Rand Pecknold said that since moving to Connecticut, he has started to like the team more and more. It helps, he added, that his two sons are Rangers fans.

“I think they’ve played well,” said Pecknold, a Fairfield resident. “It’s exciting for the area.”

Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist has been amazing through the entire post season, he added.

For lifelong fan and Fairfield resident Nick Smith, watching the team play so well over the last five games as been exhilarating.

“I feel trepidation and excitement at the same time,” Smith said. “It’s awesome.”

Dan Tremblay, a hockey instructor at the Fairfield Ice Academy, says that he is rooting for Rangers since his team, the Bruins, lost in the quarterfinals to Montreal.

“I think a lot of pressure is on Lunqvist,” Tremblay said.

But longtime Capitals fan and hockey instructor Ryan Bushman said that he thinks the Rangers have been really lucky over the last few games.

The Rangers continue their bid to make the Stanley Cup finals with their their third game against the Montreal Canadiens at 8 p.m. Thursday. The team needs two win two more games in the seven-game series to reach the final.
