Fairfield Ludlowe Fencer Wins State Championship

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield’s George Whiteside won a state championship in fencing this weekend.

The Fairfield Ludlowe junior took the men’s epee title at the Connecticut High School Fencing Association’s individual tournament in New Haven on Saturday. He defeated Fairfield Prep senior Nikal Tasker of Fairfield Prep, 15-5, in an all-Fairfield final.

Whiteside and fellow Fairfield co-op team members Leah Hintz (women’s epee), Drew Skalk (men’s Sabre) and Gabriel Rotar-Crowe (women’s Sabre) also earned spots on the association’s All-State Team.

Tasker’s brother, sophomore Rahul Tasker, placed seventh in the men’s sabre division for Fairfield Prep.

The Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe co-op fencing team will compete again this weekend at the team championships in North Haven on March 9, led by captains Chris DannHauser (men’s epee) and Ivy Wong (women’s foil).
