Fairfield Runners Meet Minute Man Challenge

Fairfield's Susan Gold finished second overall among women in the 5-kilometer race in Sunday's Minute Man Race in Westport. Nearly 1,400 runners competed in the 5K, 10K or children's races at Westport's Compo Beach. The race was organized by the Westport Young Women's League.

Gold, 56, ran 22:12 for the 3.1-mile distance. Weston's Andi Rosenblatt won the race in 21:54. 

Other top age-group runners from Fairfield in the 5K included Sarah Wojnarski (third in the women's 19-29 division); Berit Ianiri (won the women's 50-59 division); Monica Roche (won the women's 70-and-over division); Jerry Tonelia (third in the men's 19-29 division); and Steve Gratwohl (third in the men's 60-69 division).

In the 10K, top age group runners from Fairfield included Stephen Battaglia (third in the boys 14-and-under division); Taylor Peterson (first) and Brian Peterson (third) in the 15-18 boys division; Shea Shapiro (third in men's 20-29); and Michael Costello (second in men's 50-59).

Westport's Tom Harding won the men's 10K, and Norwalk's Leslie Sporre won the women's 10K. Noredine Abdelfateh won the men's 5K. Complete race results are on the superracesystems.com website.
