EASTON, Conn. – Fairfield’s Ken West and Larry Wilner were the champions of the Easton Racquet Club’s annual St. Paddle’s Day tournament Sunday.
St. Paddle’s Day, a play on St. Patrick’s Day, is an annual platform tennis tournament held on the holiday by the Easton Racquet Club. The game, also called paddle tennis, pits teams of two against each other in a game similar to tennis, but with shorter nets and solid wood paddles instead of rackets.
West and Wilner won the tournament Sunday by defeating Easton’s Joe Sproviero and Kyle Bast in the finals, 10-8. They led a field with a total of eight two-man teams to take the title.
