Fairfield Teams Play In State Little League Championships This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Two teams from Fairfield will play in Connecticut Little League championship tournaments this weekend.

The Fairfield National Little League 10-year-old stars will play Mystic for the state championship.

The Fairfield American 12-year-old All-Stars will play South Windsor in Harwinton, while the Fairfield National 10-year-old All-Stars will meet Mystic in Ellington.

Fairfield American nipped Farmington, 2-1, in eight innings in the Section 1 final in a game that was completed Thursday. The game had started Wednesday. Fairfield American led 1-0 before Farmington tied it in the fifth inning. The game was halted in the eighth due to lightning and rain, and the conclusion was pushed to Thursday.

The best-of-three series between the Section 1 and 2 winners begins Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Harwinton Sports Complex. The second game is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. The third game, if necessary, will be played on Monday beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Americans are aiming to win their fourth state championship in five years. The state champion advances to the New England Regional beginning Friday, Aug. 1.

Fairfield National’s 10-year-old All-Stars ripped Farmington, 11-0, in the Section 1 championship game. The Nationals begin state championship play at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The second game in the best-of-three championship series starts Sunday at 4 p.m. The third game, if necessary, starts at 5:45 p.m. on Monday.
