Smith scored 21 points in a loss to Niagara on Sunday and 24 points in a loss to LaSalle on Dec. 28. Smith has started all 12 games for Fairfield (2-10) and is averaging 13.3 points per game. She became the first Stag this season to record back-to-back 20-point games.
“I’m very proud of Casey,” Head Coach Joe Frager said. “We’ve asked her to do a lot for this team, probably too much for a first-year player, and she has responded very well.”
Smith shot 56 percent from the floor against Niagara, including a 67 percent clip in the first half. She also tallied three assists, and led the game with two total blocks. Two of her three free throws tied the game, and she also had two jumpers that would tie the game late.
The Stags meet nine-time defending MAAC champions Marist on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
