The team raised the money during the annual "A Crucial Catch" campaign to "help raise awareness about the importance of early cancer screening to save lives."

The fund-raising effort is sponsored by the Fairfield Warde Gridiron Club's Mustangs Care Committee and was held at the varsity team's Oct. 18th game against Wilton High School. During halftime, the freshman players "passed the helmet"  and collected generous donations from both the Fairfield and Wilton fans, representatives said.
