Fairfield Wildcats Football Teams Earn High Seeds

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Wildcats’ sixth-grade football team earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Fairfield County Football League playoffs while the seventh-graders are seeded second.

Both teams have first-round byes for the playoffs, which begin this weekend. The seventh-grade team (7-1) finished the regular season with a 19-0 win over New Canaan Black in its regular-season finale, while the sixth-graders (6-1) lost their regular-season finale to New Canaan Red, 21-19.

The seventh-grade team posted its second straight shutout and third in four games in its victory over New Canaan. Jack Curtis scored on a 28-yard run, and Timmy Jacobi added a 17-yard scoring run. Justin Keith’s interception return accounted for Fairfield’s other touchdown. Joey Turner added a conversion.

Jack Hogarth had two interceptions, and Zach Taylor had a fumble recovery. Matt Coda and Kris Gjinaj also played well on offense, while defensive leaders included Clay Zachery, Josh Evans and Alexey Linsenmeyer.

In other games, the fifth-grade Wildcats fell to New Canaan, 33-13. Ben Pulsifer had two long touchdown runs. Ryan Janz and Griffin Gallati also played well offensively, while Deaglan O’Donnell and Liam Hawley led the defense. The Wildcats (1-7) finished the regular season as the No. 12 seed and tackle No. 5 Ridgefield Black in its playoff opener Saturday at 3 p.m. in Ridgefield.

The fourth-grade Wildcats beat Norwalk, 21-6, to finish the season 5-3. Fairfield enters the playoffs as the No. 5 seed and will meet Norwalk again in the first round of the playoffs Saturday at 6 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe.

Andrew Conklin threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jack Morison for Fairfield’s first touchdown. Jack McKenna’s fumble recovery set up the touchdown. Conklin and Jack Gremse scored the other Wildcat touchdowns. Dylan Igram and Lorenzo Cooper added conversions. Aidan Casey, Kyle Dutter, Will Smalley and Thomas Walewski also played well on offense.

The third-grade Wildcats edged Ridgefield, 18-13. Harrison Keith scored two touchdowns, and Paul Sussman had the other score. Brayden Mazzoni, Tyler Lampley, Thomas Schindler, Andre Mead, Justin Feldman, Denholm Feldman and Kieran Heske also played well.

Fairfield finished the regular season 3-4 and will be the sixth seed for the playoffs. The Wildcats play third-seeded Wilton Blue on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Wilton in its playoff opener.
