Fairfield Woman Earns College Honor for Hartford

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield’s Daphne Elliott, a junior guard at the University of Hartford, scored the first weekly honor of the season when she was named the America East Player of the Week. Elliott helped lead the Hawks to a pair of victories over Hofstra, 61-59, and Boston College, 54-45, at the Chase Family Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion.

Elliott finished both games with double figures in the scoring column, her second and third straight games with double-digit points. Elliott opened the week with 11 points in the win over the Pride and finished with a game-high 20 points in the win over BC. It was the second time this season she has finished with 20-plus points and was one shy of her career high.

Overall for the week, Elliott put up impressive numbers on all ends of the floor, averaging 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals-per-game. In the win over Hofstra, Elliott led the Hawks with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals, all of which tied career bests. In the win over BC, Elliott finished with four assists and three steals.

Against the Eagles, Elliott scored 12 of her 20 points in the final 10 minutes of the game, while during that same stretch the Hawks outscored BC by an 18-3 margin.

Elliott had 11 points in a win Monday over Dartmouth as the Hawks improved to 11-3. Elliott starred for coach Dave Danko at Fairfield Warde High School.
