FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- It was another strong weekend for the Fairfield Giants as the five youth football teams went a combined 4-1 on Saturday, Sept.28.
The Giants Mitey Mite Jr. Division edged Bridgeport, 13-12. A strong defensive effort kept the Giants in the game until Sean O'Neil busted free for a 15-yard touchdown late in the game. The Giants improved to 2-2-1 with the win.
“Defensively everyone showed up when it counted and having all of our boys contribute made the difference this week,” assistant coach Matt Kane said in a statement.
The Junior Pee Wee division had the most convincing win of the day, shutting out Derby, 41-0. Running Backs Luke Martucci and AJ Montgomery each had two rushing touchdowns on the day.
The Pee Wee division had a defensive gem of their own, shutting out Waterbury, 26-0. Owen Cirilli, Finn Duran, Aidan Wykoff and Henry Houghton each scored for the Giants, who improved to 4-1 with the victory.
The Junior Midget Giants also netted a convincing win, defeating Handen 34-6. Phillip Pasmeg scored three touchdowns to pace the Giants.
The Mitey Mite Senior division fell to Stratford, 27-0 on Saturday, but got solid defensive performances out of Maximillian Spies, Rahul Yaganti, Dylan Walton and Thomas Kramer.
“The kids love being on the field," head coach Johnny Vasquez said in a statement. “It’s a tough game, once it all clicks for them, they will be a tough team to beat.”
