FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two Fairfield Wildcats teams continued their winning ways in the Fairfield County Football League over the weekend.
The sixth-grade Wildcats stayed undefeated with a narrow 8-7 win over New Canaan, while the seventh-grade Wildcats moved to 3-1 with a 26-6 win over New Canaan.
The sixth-grade squad had trailed 7-0. Brian Howell scored Fairfield’s touchdown and Will Stearns ran for the two-point conversion. David Summers had a big game throwing the ball.
Fairfield allowed just its second score of the season. Justin Coudert, Jayden Sneed, Justin Hathaway, Ryan Hummerstone and Chase Reynolds helped Fairfield control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
The seventh-grade team scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Cerminaro to Justin Keith to take the lead. Jack Curtis added two touchdown runs, including a 60-yard scoring scamper. Timmy Jacobi return an interception for a touchdown. Andrew Werner (fumble recovery) and Clay Zachery (interception) had turnovers.
In other games, New Canaan Red topped the Fairfield fifth-grade team, 22-2. Quinn Pavoz, Joey Gulbin and Ben Pulsifer were among those who played well in a losing effort.
The fourth-grade team whipped Darien Blue, 22-7. Ryan McIntosh and Lorenzo Cooper ran for scores, and Andrew Conklin hit Jack Morrison with a touchdown pass.
Fairfield’s third-grade team dropped a tight 20-14 contest to Darien. Jack Reiling hit Harrison Keith with two touchdown passes. A potential game-winning drive was halted by Darien as time ran out.
