Head Tennis Coach At Fairfield University Takes On New Role

Paige announced he has retired as head coach of the men’s and women’s tennis program effective July 31.

He is moving into the role of coordinator of tennis operations, in which he will assist with fundraising, player development, and outreach.

“It is with trepidation, sadness, and excitement that I announce my retirement as head men's and women's tennis coach at Fairfield,” Paige said. “I am, however, not leaving the programs or the university. In my new role as Coordinator of Tennis Operations, I will be able to help expand the brand and footprint of Fairfield tennis. The best times for Stags tennis are still to come.”

Paige brought great success to the men’s and women’s tennis programs in his eight seasons at the helm and was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009.

Paige led the women’s program to three NCAA Tournament appearances, three MAAC Tournament Championships, five MAAC Regular Seasons Championships, and an overall record of 103-75-1. He guided 28 All-MAAC Singles and 18 All-MAAC Doubles student-athletes, including four MAAC Players of the Year. In the classroom, the Stags had 18 MAAC All-Academic and 12 ITA Scholar-Athlete selections.

On the men’s side, he led the Stags to their first MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2012 and guided them to an overall record of 110-63. He coached 21 All-MAAC Singles and 15 All-MAAC Doubles selections, including two MAAC Players of the Year and two MAAC Rookies of the Year. In the classroom, the Stags had 28 MAAC All-Academic and 20 ITA Scholar-Athlete selections.

“With Ed’s guidance throughout the last eight years, the tennis program has been consistently one of the best in the MAAC,” Doris said. “As he transitions to his new role of Coordinator of Tennis Operations, we expect that same hard work and dedication will help position us for continued development and success.”

A search for a head coach for the men’s and women’s program will begin immediately.
