FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Notre Dame-Fairfield boys ice hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 second period lead against New Canaan, but could not hold onto it. The Rams clawed their way back and forced overtime. Tyler Manchuck netted the game-winner to give New Canaan a dramatic 3-2 victory.
Play was just about even in the first period, with each squad getting off six shots and neither going to the penalty box. The Lancers were the first to light the lamp, as Garrett Gintoli scored at 1:07 into the second period. Sal Serano got his stick on a nifty behind-the-back pass from Dave Canfarotta to put Notre Dame up 2-0 early in the second.
New Canaan finally awoke with a goal from Jack Stanton less than 30 seconds later. Peter Reinhardt knotted the game at 2-2 with a goal in the third period, setting up Manchucks heroics.
Lancers goalie Mike Samulenas made 29 saves on the evening. The Rams outshot Notre Dame, 32-24
